"Okosama Near Lunch"

  • Jul. 11th, 2009 at 4:58 PM
Title: Okosama* Near Lunch
Series: Death Note
Pairing: LxNear (with a NearxGevanni joke thrown in for giggles.)
Rating: PG/PG-13 (for shouta!kisses)
Summary: There is no point in hiding his feelings-- L will figure things out, eventually. So really, he should just tell him...
Notes: This doujin essentially has three parts. The first is a bunch of humorous comics which focus on Near and his relationship with the members of the SPK; the second is a more serious piece where Near comes to terms with his feelings for L; the third is a number of cheesy cutesy LxNear flavored stories. All in all, a very amusing read. :D

*I couldn't really think of a translation for "Okosama." "Ko" means child, and putting the "o" in front of it makes it an "honorable child." "Sama" is an honorific that usually gets translated to "lord" (hence the little crown over the title), so essentially we've got us a "Lord Honorable Child Near Lunch." So... yeah. "Okosama Near Lunch" it stays. XD;;;

--> AS ALWAYS, YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF MY SCANLATION COMM BEFORE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THIS DOUJIN. :D THANKS IN ADVANCED, AND I HOPE YOU ENJOY! <3

10 Random Facts about Germany

  • Jul. 11th, 2009 at 2:30 PM

- Germany’s territory covers about 137,850 sqm - it's just slightly larger than the US state of Montana, just to put it in perspective.

- The largest city is the capital Berlin with ~3.4 million inhabitants (Hamburg: 1.76 mio, Munich: 1.35).

- Germany consists of 16 states, 3 of which are city states (Hamburg, Berlin, Bremen).

- Germany shares borders with Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland.

- It's one of the world’s top exporters, main exports being cars, machinery and chemical products.

- 18 is the universal age of consent. This is when you can vote and drive a car as well.

- There are 9 to 13 holidays a year (varies from state to state, more days off in catholic states).

- Employees get 20 to 30 days paid vacation per year. If they stick with one company over the years, the number increases even more. All national holidays are off for most people (apart from some service staff in cinemas, hotels, etc). There is no such thing as a set number of "sick days".

- The population growth rate is -0.033 - more of a decline rate.

- 34% of the population are Protestants, 34% are Catholics, the rest is other or undeclared. The Christian churches have been steadily losing members for decades. For Germans, religion is private and generally won't be announced to the world as it is done in countries like the United States. It does not take a center role and it would be more than odd to hear a politician mention "god" in their speeches.

Trading/Selling: Death Note manga Volume 3

  • Jul. 11th, 2009 at 11:19 AM
Hi fandom,

So I have two copies of Volume 3 (random, I know), and obviously I only need one. ^_^  I am willing to trade one of them for a good-condition Volume 10, 11, or 12 or Another Note.   I realize it's unlikely anyone has extras of the later volumes and not #3, but i figured, why not ask. Apologies for obnoxious sales post. ^^; Also willing to sell for $7.00 shipping included, but I'd rather trade.

Some of us here are statistics fanatics, so I bring you, from the Daily Fail:

Title: The child murder epidemic
Source: The Daily Mail
Link: Can be found here
Summary: A news programme called Dispatches went to councils all over England and found out that there are around 183 child killings in the UK between 2004 and 2008. (Another article on the site reveals that exactly 62% of children are killed by their parents with a further 17% are suspected to be killed by parents.)

I'm not going to copy & paste the article unless someone asks -- it's just too long.

In other news, everyone seems to be less excited by SIL's new baby. It still doesn't do much. She cries a lot, passes gas a lot, and threw up on my MIL several times (I hate hate hate throw up so I run away when I see the kid). MIL thrust the baby into my arms once and got a picture of me holding it with a very forced smile and is going to send it to my mother, who will upon seeing the photo whine and wail about how she wants grandchildren. *heavy sigh* Anyone got £3,000 to loan me so I can get sterilized?

Be there or be elsewhere!

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 11:38 PM
I *think* I've emailed the people most likely/able to make it, but hey! I'm having a birthday get-together thing next weekend! AND YOU'RE INVITED!

It's looking like Saturday, the 18th, will involve a possible jailbait Harry Potter viewing, food of some kind, obnoxious party games/chillage, some or all of those involved heading to [info]dragonsus's concert, and then probably more food and drinking. While not guaranteed, a good time is predicted for all.

RSVPs appreciated, so I have some idea of what the hell I'm trying to plan. For a limited time only, couches available for out of town guests.

The point is, there will be wackiness in commemoration of the quarter century since I emerged from my mother's womb. I'll be there. WILL YOU?

In search of an icon...

...if one exists.  I'm searching for one of David looking particularly evil, mischievous, or devious.  It can have words or not.  If anyone knows of one out there, please point me in the right direction.  Thanks in advance!

Tiny bit of crack

  • Jul. 11th, 2009 at 12:08 AM
So I'm talking to a friend on AIM who works at a Burger King:

Me (12:04:50 AM): i want to read fic... and there's one on the comm... but it's wewy and i really wanted some tendershipping angst...
Her (12:05:01 AM): tendershipping?
Her (12:05:12 AM): that almost sounds like one of the chicken sandwiches at work.

Tendershipping, it's what's for dinner.

P.S. Anyone know any good angsty tendershipping fics?

Out in the Park

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 8:28 PM
I plan on making up to Wright Park tomorrow for the gay festival, Out in the Park.

I haven't been up there since my high school days in the late 90s. Refresh my memory - where is a good place to park. And what's the parking situation like for those who have gone in the past?

Thanks

LETS talk about High School Debut!!

I admit it is TYPICAL Shojo, but it was really FUNNY amusing to me! The girl is SUCH A spaz. then guy is so laid back and fairly easy going.

um I only started reading 3 and up...because the library didn't have 1 and 2. but it's REALLY interesting. typical shojo plot points...but for some reason it's addictive!

5D's question.

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 10:42 PM
So, this is something that has been bugging me. All the police seem to be able to duel, and dueling seems to be integral to the culture. There are even laws against Satellites dueling, if I heard correctly.

Is dueling the basis of their legal system? Like, win a duel against a judge and you are innocent?

If so, that's a terrible justice system.

I realize it's an anime, I just wonder about how that effing place functions.

On the other hand, how awesome would it be if this was some sort of "bread and circuses"* type thing? That would be very cool.

*"Bread and circuses" refers to a plan the Romans had to keep their populations from revolting. They gave them free bread, which was a major staple to them, and the free entertainment of the circuses.
